Estimated Time: 15 minutes

Procedure:
- Explain that it can often be difficult to make decisions within a relationship. You sometimes find yourself caught between doing what you want and what you think you need to do to keep your relationship. One way of helping yourself with this dilemma is to know what's non-negotiable for you, and why. This provides clarity to decision-making and an ability to share with your partner what's going on.
- Explain that getting to know who you are and being comfortable with yourself are important in this process. Today is just the beginning of an exciting and varied journey that can continue throughout your lifetime.
- Distribute sheets of paper and markers. Have participants go through the following steps individually and silently:
- Draw a symbol to represent yourself in the middle of the page.
- Inside the symbol, write down some qualities and characteristics that make up who "you" are.
- Outside the symbol, write down some of the things in your life that are important to you. These may be things you like to do, people in your life, etc.
- If you were told that you had to choose only half of these things to keep, which would you choose? Why?
- Explain that the things they chose to keep can represent those what is non-negotiable in a relationship.
