Sexual Health Facili-Nightmares
Peer Education Skills: Sexual Health Facili-Nightmares aka Dealing With Tricky Situations
Learning Objective: Participants will explore difficult situations that may arise during their workshops and develop strategies for managing these situations.
Resources:
Time: 1 hour
Materials:
- CD of "Freak Out," by Le Chic and a CD player.
- Sheets of flipchart paper and markers
Procedure:
- Explain that this activity is an opportunity for facilitators to look at some difficult situations that may arise, and to create strategies for dealing with them.
- Have the group brainstorm a list of potential nightmare situations.
- Through dot voting, choose the top 5 to 10 nightmares that the group wants to explore.
- Explain that the next part of the activity involves role-playing. For each case, two trainees will volunteer to be facilitators. They will leave the room while the rest of the group chooses the case to role-play and who will initiate the problem situation. The facilitators will lead the group through a sexual health learning activity and manage the problem situation when it arises.
- At the end of each role-play, play "Freak Out" and get everyone dancing. Then debrief the role play by asking:
- What happened?
- What did the facilitators do well? What was it about their intervention that made this work?
- What are some other ideas for managing this kind of situation?
